Staff and campers at Camp del Corazon.
Staff and campers at Camp del Corazon.

Today’s post comes to us from Penny Lane who serves as Camp Director for Camp del Corazon, a camp for children and teens with heart disease. Penny’s mother, Lisa Knight who is also an R.N., was inspired to found this camp in 1995. That summer she brought together 49 children along with staff to spend three days together for camping and community. The camp was created to offer children a safe environment to enjoy and summer fun and build friendships with peers with similar health conditions. Below, Penny tells how the camp has grown over the past twenty years. We were privileged to donate an AED to Camp del Corazon this summer. We were introduced to this great program through our friend Angela from Rescue Heart Foundation. If you missed Angela’s guest post about her trip to Haiti, you will definitely want to check it out as well. But for now, please read on to learn more about the wonderful experience Camp del Corazon provides for youth impacted by heart disease.
