Here at AED.com, when we decided to give away 100 AEDs this year we knew we were going to be touched by many of the stories we would hear. What we didn’t realize was just how touching these stories would be. There are many organizations and individuals who are making a difference and spreading awareness about Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Rescue Heart Foundation http://www.rescueheart.org is one who stood out to us and touched our hearts.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Angela Howell-Edgerly, the CEO of Rescue Heart. Rescue Heart Foundation began on the operating table after Angela had a personal battle with heart disease. She had been admitted for a cardiac procedure when her heart went into a fatal arrhythmia and suddenly stopped. The doctors immediately revived her with a defibrillator and an internal pacemaker/defibrillator was implanted. Upon recovery, she found that there was a need to raise more awareness of sudden cardiac failure and that life-saving devices (AEDs) are lacking in most communities. Rescue Heart Foundation is on a mission to educate the public and emphasizes that many people can survive if they are treated quickly with a combination of CPR and defibrillation.
Not only does this organization raise funds to place AEDs in the community, AED.com and Zoll Medical heard about a camp this organization is forming for 2013. “Camp Rescue Heart” will be a medically supervised summer camp that focuses on children living with heart disease. Camp Rescue Heart anticipates serving 40 children the first year with staff of 30 volunteers. They also expect to grow each year. They are one of only two other summer camps in California that care for children with heart disease. “Donors like AED.com are helping make it possible for children living with cardiac disease to lead happier, fruitful lives giving them a chance to forget about their ailments and allowing them to connect with others who have had similar experiences. Your kind and thoughtful donation allows us to use the funds raised by the Foundation to send more children to camp, thank you” says Angela.
We are honored to be a part of this foundation and are moved by the thought of children healing both physically and emotionally together. We wish Rescue Heart Foundation and “Camp Rescue Heart” the best. Lives can be saved with a joint commitment to raise awareness and by placing these devices in our communities. Together we can make a difference.
