Course teaches students to understand bloodborne pathogens and prevent and contain their exposure.
Heartsaver® Bloodborne Pathogens Course is designed for anyone who has a realistic chance of coming into contact with any bloodborne pathogens. Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms that travel in the blood and can sometimes cause fatal diseases when transmitted. The following areas of employment (this is not a comprehensive listing) should consider taking this course: childcare and school personnel, correctional and security officers, maintenance workers, housekeepers, health club staff as well as tattoo artists. This course meets Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and teaches individuals how to protect themselves and others from exposure to blood or any materials containing blood. The course utilizes a classroom-based setting with videos and skills sessions led by a certified AHA instructor.
Using AHA’s PACT acronym (Protect, Act, Clean, Tell) as well as their slogan, “Make a PACT, Know How to Act,” allows students to quickly and easily remember and put into action the information and skills they learned at their training. PACT teaches students to protect themselves from exposure to any bloodborne pathogens, act quickly when they come into contact with any blood or materials containing blood at work, clean the exposed areas as well as themselves, and tell and/or report any exposures. Student materials include the Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens Student Workbook and all students who complete the course will receive a Participation Certificate. Students are not required to take a written exam.
This course is available in Spanish.
