Pediatric or child pads are designed to reduce the joule count (shock strength) to one appropriate for the youngest victims. Infants and children under 55 lb. or younger than 8 years old who experience sudden cardiac arrest should have pediatric pads applied and connected to the AED. It’s critical that schools, daycares, homes, and businesses where children are often present have access to pediatric pads for the AED. Most FDA-approved AED models offer a special set of pediatric pads that are compatible with your AED unit. You can also purchase adult AED pads at AED.com
