Swimming Pools AED Requirements and Laws

As legislation on AED placement is growing, many AEDs are now required at commercial and local swimming pools. Swimming pool safety should be a top priority for swimming pool owners. Drowning is one of the top safety concerns and is often associated with sudden cardiac arrest as drowning victims can trigger SCA due to the lack of oxygen in the bloodstream and increase of lactic acid in the body.

Making sure lifeguards and public swimming pool staff are trained in CPR and AED use can provide relief in knowing your community is prepared. For staff who have already been trained, it is important to make sure their certifications are up-to-date, and all staff are able to maintain the AED. Even though not all AEDs are required at swimming pools, they are highly recommended to keep all members and swimmers safe in the event a cardiac emergency occurs.
