Adult First Aid/CPR/AED

Being prepared to help in an emergency can be the difference between life and death for a victim of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) or an emergency that needs immediate first aid care. With 70 percent of Americans feeling helpless to act in an emergency, we want to ensure you are not part of that percentage. We are here to help you learn how you can help in an emergency situation with CPR, using an AED and first aid.

How You Can Help with CPR

After breathing has stopped in a victim, brain damage can occur within five minutes. This is why it is important CPR is performed immediately. While the first step in an emergency situation is to call 9-1-1, CPR should be performed as you await their arrival, which is typically eight minutes. CPR training is important and gives anyone the power to save a life. This life-saving technique helps to keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other organs. CPR should be performed until an AED can be used.

How You Can Help with an AED

Performing CPR and using an AED can increase the chance of survival in a victim by 40 percent. Each minute without, the survival rate decreases 7 to 10 percent. Using an AED may seem scary at first, but all AEDs offer visual and/or audio cues to guide the rescuer through the proper steps including applying the adult pads to delivering the automatic or semi-automatic shock. This allows anyone on the scene the opportunity to help save a life.

How You Can Help with First Aid
